Jack Flowers began riding at an early age in northern Ohio and was quickly drawn to hunt-seat. Fortunate enough to live in an area with a number of quality instructors and shows, Jack was able to develop a solid foundation and find success in the short-stirrup and pony divisions. It was in this atmosphere at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club that he first began to learn what it takes to create a winning marriage of horse and rider. After moving to Middleburg, Virginia and throughout his grade-school years, Jack competed in some of the most challenging pony divisions in the country. At a time when there were no age
limits in the pony divisions and many riders stepped out of the pony ring and into professional careers, he and his ponies found themselves consistently in the ribbons. He took this same consistency into the Junior Hunter and Equitation rings in which he competed in Florida, Virginia, and throughout the Southeast. By the end of his Junior career, Jack considered himself fortunate to have worked with such fine horsemen and women as Howard Lewis, Kitty Beverage, and Hugh Mutch.
After a hiatus from showing to attend college and hold down a real job, Jack came back to his first passion and managed "AA" show facility where he was placed in charge of both conditioning performance horses and running the riding school. In the years since his return, Jack has developed a solid reputation for successfully taking riders from the local level to "AA" hunter. jumper,. and equitation rings, as well as creating well matched horse and rider teams. He has also started some very nice young horses that win divisions at top rated shows.
Jack believes that there is nothing more important than putting a solid foundation on both horse and rider. Without this foundation and consistent training, neither will be able to develop the confidence and knowledge base to be able to navigate the challenges put before them. This is why he puts emphasis on the development of a solid and workable leg in all of his riders and basic dressage for all of his horses. "The basics are what we all have to fall back on..."
Jack holds a BA in History from Valdosta State University and an MA in International Affairs from Florida State University. He is a founding member of the Milton Horse Council, and is an advocate for the equine industry throughout the state of Georgia.
